Understand the terminology, skills, techniques, and best practices used in the art of letterpress printing. Learn and apply printers’ measure(the point system) and how to use a line gauge(pica stick) and the California type case layout. Set movable metal and wood type as practiced from the fifteenth century, selecting letters one at a time by hand in a 
composing stick.


Chose a typeface and hand set a poem, a bookmark, personal stationery, or business card. Learn the importance of leading and how to properly adjust the line spacing of your form. Become familiar with common type sizes, word spaces and quads. Set type flush left, flush right, centered and justified. Transfer type from composing stick to galley and pull a proof.
